Our Upgraded Classrooms Unleashed Program Offered a Better Student Experience and a Streamlined Process for Our Valued Customers: Teachers

At Sierra Nevada Journeys, we’ve been partnering with schools and teachers for 18 years, providing engaging, hands-on science lessons for eager young minds. Our goal? To make science fun and achievable for every student. Imagine your students diving deep into science, with lessons split between a day in the classroom led by our enthusiastic instructors and a day outdoors applying what they’ve learned in the real world. The results included better content retention and improved science test scores.

In the Fall of 2024, we launched Classrooms Unleashed 3.0 and completely overhauled the program to better fit the needs of students and teachers. Additionally, we simplified the booking process, with a single point of contact with our community liaison.

Classrooms Unleashed continues to use pre- and post-assessments to measure its success and the improvements in students’ understanding of science concepts. Each program is grade-level specific and aligns with Next Generation Science State Standards.

Philanthropy in Action

Through the generosity of The Nell J. Redfield Foundation, the Redfield Community Outreach Program provides underserved students in the Washoe County School District greater access to experiential learning opportunities through community partnerships. Thanks to a generous 2024 grant from The Nell J. Redfield Foundation, we provided high-quality STEM and outdoor education to more than 750 students in the Greater Reno area. From hands-on science experiments to immersive outdoor adventures, these experiences have sparked curiosity, creativity, and a love for learning in students. Their support is shaping the next generation of innovators and environmental champions.

The Sacramento Area Sewer District (SacSewer) is the Sacramento region’s sewage collection, treatment, and resource recovery utility. They provide service to 1.6 million people and are the second-largest sewer collection utility

in California. Since 2019, SacSewer has partnered with Sierra Nevada Journeys through our Hands-in-the-River Program. Students not only learn about the health of local rivers within the Sacramento River Watershed, as well as storm drains and stormwater runoff, but also how wastewater management fits into the broader concept of watershed education.
