Capital Improvement Initiative Enhances Camp Infrastructure and Upgrades

With the purchase of Camp in 2020, the positive ripple effect of this event felt more like a tidal wave. We were able to immediately expand our impact, making science education and the invaluable camp experience available to more than 8,000 visitors last year. This number continues to grow.

In 2023, we embarked on a four-year-long Capital Improvement Initiative to support the maintenance and improvement of our “permanent camp in the pines.” Through this funding initiative, our team can stay ahead of critical maintenance and up upkeep of camp infrastructure, including buildings, trails, roads, and the challenge source. This allows Sierra Nevada Journeys to ensure camp is accessible for all and in excellent condition for future generations.

In addition to the new Bobcat® and plans to pave the road into Camp as mentioned in the CEO’s letter, ADA-Accessible asphalt pathways around camp were repaved, ensuring that all campers are able to continue to safely navigate the area. Also, the Alpine Tower, one of our most unique and memorable camp offerings, received upkeep that will allow it to remain operational for at least another three years.

Our goal is to raise $1.2 million and prioritize capital assets that require repair, maintenance, replacement, or improvement soon. Thanks to the continued support and generosity of our donors, we’ve already raised $500,000. We couldn’t have accomplished so much without the support from the Arata Brothers Charitable Trust, The E.L. Cord Foundation, Helen Close Charitable Foundation, The Bretzlaff Foundation, and an Anonymous Donor.
